Model Congress is a club that recreates the legislative process of the United States Congress, allowing students to step into the roles of senators, representatives, committee members, and more. Through drafting bills and debating current issues, members develop skills in public speaking, critical thinking, leadership, and collaboration. They also build a tight-knit community, creating a strong sense of camaraderie among members. Members form bonds not only within the Syosset club, but also with students from other schools. Adrian Yang said, “It’s so great to see the same faces again at these competitions.”

In typical meetings, members create lifelong memories through both weekly meetings and competitions. Samarth Motaganahalli noted that one of his most unforgettable moments occurred early in his Model Congress career. He said, “I was pretty naive and my bill got destroyed, but it was a great learning moment.” For him and many others, the club is about growth, learning new skills, and gaining confidence over time, which is what makes Model Congress so meaningful to its members.
