Every great journey starts with a spark of inspiration. For Syosset’s Sienna Renny, the motivation to pick up a glove was a family affair. By watching her cousin on the softball field, she knew this was the game plan for her future. Sienna said, “What drew me to this sport was that I really looked up to my cousin. Seeing her play made me want to play and become just like her.” Family, friends, and faith in God kept the shortstop motivated throughout her high school career, no matter the highs or lows. Sienna learned early on that failure is not a strikeout, but rather an opportunity to pivot.
Every athlete has one play that stays in their mind forever. For Sienna, that moment came during a high-stakes game against Oceanside. Showcasing her leadership and competitive drive, she sealed the game with a diving play that shifted the team’s energy and helped secure the win. That single moment under pressure showed just how clutch a player Sienna truly has become. She has grown not only as a leader on the field, but also off it. Instead of looking up to the older girls on the team, she has now become the role model that younger and newer players admire. She said, “I am a different person today than I was as a freshman because I am more of a leader now.”
As Sienna prepares to hang up her high school jersey, the future looks bright. She is headed to Seton Hall University to continue both her athletic and academic career while playing Division I softball. The Pirates are gaining not only a talented shortstop, but also a leader who knows how to overcome pressure and inspire those around her.
