Model UN: A Seat at the Global Table

Model United Nations empowers students to tackle international issues through their voices.

Model United Nations (Model UN) is a club that simulates the work of the United Nations, giving members the opportunity to represent countries and debate pressing global issues. Through in-depth research, formal debate, and collaboration during resolution writing, students develop skills in diplomacy and public speaking. Co-president Juha Kim said, “I wanted to improve my public speaking skills and my confidence, but I also wanted to learn more about the world around me and current events.”

The club teaches students about events occurring across the globe and the ways countries can respond. The solutions are not always clear-cut, but this challenges members to problem-solve and work collaboratively. In Model UN, students represent a country during competitions, and as Vihaan Shankar said, “It’s fun to see other people snap into the role of their country as soon as they walk into the room, and that really encouraged me.” Students create an atmosphere of hard work, inspiring one another and pushing each other to grow, and their dedication is what leads the club’s success.
