A Call from the Dean’s Office

Introducing the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2026.

By: Ridyansh Agrawal

When Grace Liu and Sean Yang saw each other outside the Dean’s Office, they sensed it was going to be good news. Walking toward the office, they were unsure of what was to occur. That sense of suspense was quickly replaced by shock, amazement, and a deep sense of honor when Grace Liu and Sean Yang were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2026.

Both Grace and Sean recognized the significance of the titles bestowed upon them. “The title represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work, but the personal and academic growth that unfolds through the journey is shaped by the many experiences and supportive teachers at Syosset High School,” said Grace. “The recognition is not only an honor but also a responsibility to be a good role model.” They also appreciated the collaborative relationships they formed, whether in or outside of class. They learned from and supported one another, something they hope to carry with them throughout life. Both found that the friendships and supportive community at Syosset have been the most meaningful parts of their high school experience. Sean specifically highlighted his Math Theory Honors class. He said, “Students work together to help everyone understand the material.”

The most important advice from the two is to beat the urge to procrastinate by simply getting started, even if it is with the smallest of tasks. Grace also described a few small habits that help her stay focused while working. “I always get at least two bottles of water next to me,” said Grace. She also offered advice to incoming freshmen. “Make the most of the high school experience, because high school offers so many resources, opportunities, and activities. Focus on a few activities you really love,” she said. Sean said, “Keep a level head. Most challenges in high school are manageable if students stay calm and believe in themselves.”

Grace plans to continue pursuing research with real world impact, regardless of where life takes her, and Sean plans to study information systems. Their journeys reflect the intellectual discovery, collaboration, and dedication that define the Syosset community.
