While studying at home does have its benefits, it’s always a good idea to get a change of scenery. Luckily, Syosset has an abundance of unique study spots, including some that most people don’t even know exist.
While many students lean toward quiet locations for studying, sometimes the opposite can be more helpful. Starbucks provides a change of scenery and an atmosphere that can support productivity. With the option to grab a snack or drink while studying, Starbucks can motivate students to work in a relaxing space while encouraging breaks. Sophomore Wendy Lai said, “Starbucks is an amazing place to study because you can get drinks and there are different seating options.” Starbucks isn’t the only café in Syosset. Although less well known, Fly Me to the Moon offers a completely different atmosphere while still serving as a strong study spot. As a space-themed café, it features eye-catching decorations. Students can also purchase meals, drinks, and desserts, allowing them to stay for longer periods of time. Sophomore Pahal Sheth said, “I like Fly Me to the Moon because it’s really fun to sit there since it’s really pretty and has good food.”
If cafés are too distracting, there are other locations that offer a more minimal environment for focused studying. For those staying at school, many recommend the school library, as it provides a space where it is easy to concentrate on homework or prepare for tests. “I like the school library because I like that I am surrounded by books,” said sophomore Ariana Lin. Although it is one of the most popular places to study in Syosset, the Syosset Public Library is praised for its calm, minimalist atmosphere, which helps students focus. It is also convenient for studying with friends, with an abundance of tables available. Many appreciate its extended hours, as it remains open until 9:00 p.m. on weekdays. “Syosset Public Library, it’s very peaceful and mindful. I like that I can study with friends. I am also not distracted by the stuff in my house,” said sophomore Emily Zheng.
Overall, everyone has different preferences when it comes to studying. Whether it’s a busy, productive atmosphere like a café or a quiet, minimalist setting like a library, Syosset offers a range of options. Ultimately, it comes down to finding the place where you can focus best. Sophomore Glory Lim said, “I like the library because it’s quiet and I can focus.”
